Anse Possession
A reef-protected bay on Praslin's north-east coast facing Curieuse, with shallow water and a drop-off about 300 m out. Guesthouses and fishing boats gather at the east end; the west end is quieter. Easy roadside parking.
The beach
Anse Possession sits between Anse Pasquière and Anse Petite Cour on Praslin's north-east coast, looking across to Curieuse. SeyVillas gives its length as around 500 m. Its shoreline forms part of the southern boundary of the Curieuse Marine National Park, as set out in the park's designation order.
Getting there
The road runs beside the beach with plenty of roadside parking, according to SeyVillas. Small guesthouses and self-catering places cluster at the east end, and several serve dinner on request. The Pasquière trail from Grand Anse also comes out here.
In the water
Coral reef keeps the surface calm, and SeyVillas puts the drop-off about 300 m from shore, which makes the bay suitable for families. It advises watching for stingrays early in the morning. In bad weather the tide can cover the beach and waves can reach the road. Seaweed tends to appear after heavy rain and during the north-west trade winds.
Crowds
Local fishermen work from the busier east end. SeyVillas suggests the west end for a quieter day.
Park rules
Marine park regulations make it an offence to take or disturb animals, shells or plants, or remove sand or rock, within the park.
Best for
- Families wanting shallow, sheltered water (SeyVillas)
- A quieter stretch at the west end (SeyVillas)
- Views of Curieuse (Tourism Seychelles)
Getting there
By car, with plenty of parking along the adjacent road; on foot from guesthouses at the east end (SeyVillas). The Pasquière trail from Grand Anse heads north to Anse Possession (SeyVillas hiking guide).
Facilities
Guesthouses and self-catering accommodation at the east end, many serving dinner on request; plenty of natural shade (SeyVillas).
Swimming
Shallow, reef-protected water with the drop-off about 300 m from shore, suitable for families (SeyVillas). Watch for stingrays early in the morning. In bad weather the tide can cover the beach and waves can reach the road. Seaweed is usually present after heavy rainfall and during the north-west trade winds (SeyVillas). The shoreline lies on the boundary of the Curieuse Marine National Park, where taking or disturbing marine life, shells or sand is prohibited (National Parks (Curieuse Marine) Designation Order and Regulations).
Snorkelling
SeyVillas lists snorkelling among the activities in the shallow, reef-protected water; Tourism Seychelles notes coral ridges around the bay.
