The beach

Grand Anse is the long bay on Praslin's south-west coast, next to the village of the same name. SeyVillas and Tourism Seychelles describe it under the name Fond de l'Anse, and SeyVillas gives its length as about 2 km. Guesthouses, shops, takeaways and restaurants sit along the road behind it.

Getting there

The main road and Praslin's bus route run behind the beach, and there is parking beside the road and at hotels. Many visitors staying nearby simply walk down.

In the water

The bay is shallow with generally small waves, and parts of the beach disappear at high tide. Tourism Seychelles calls the water shallow enough to swim without problems; the SeyVillas south-west Praslin page describes the long, quiet beach as good for walks but not ideal for swimming at all times. SeyVillas reports seaweed from May to September. Snorkelling and windsurfing equipment can be rented from establishments nearby.

Around the bay

SeyVillas notes that boat trips to Curieuse, home to giant tortoises, are popular from this side of the island, following the coast around Praslin.

Best for

  • Long beach walks (SeyVillas south-west Praslin guide)
  • Staying close to shops and restaurants (SeyVillas)
  • Windsurfing and snorkelling (Tourism Seychelles; SeyVillas)

Getting there

Walk from nearby accommodation, drive (parking by the main road and at hotels) or take Praslin's bus, which runs along the road behind the beach (SeyVillas).

Facilities

Restaurants, takeaways and shops at various points along the beach, snorkelling and windsurfing rentals from nearby establishments, and plenty of shade (SeyVillas).

Swimming

Shallow water with generally calm, small waves; some parts of the beach disappear at high tide; seaweed present from May to September (SeyVillas beach page). Tourism Seychelles says the water is shallow enough to swim without problems, while the SeyVillas south-west Praslin page says it is not ideal for swimming at all times.

Snorkelling

SeyVillas and Tourism Seychelles describe the bay as good for snorkelling; rentals are available nearby (SeyVillas).
