Hotels with family facilities

La Digue Island Lodge on the beach at Anse Réunion has a swimming pool with a children's pool, and its A-frame chalets have a mezzanine with a single bed for an older child. Le Domaine de L'Orangeraie at Anse Sévère says its 100 m² Garden Suite Residences are designed with families in mind, with a sitting room that converts for extra guests. The tourism board's La Digue article describes Chateau St Cloud as a small hotel suited to families as well as couples.

Beaches nearby

The tourism board's family beach guide recommends Anse Réunion for calm, shallow entry close to family hotels, shops and cafes; Anse Sévère, near La Passe, for calm water and beginner snorkelling; and the tidal pools of Anse Source d'Argent, inside L'Union Estate. The tourism board's Anse Marron listing advises against bringing children on the difficult, slippery path to that beach. L'Union Estate says visitors can feed its Aldabra giant tortoises.

Getting around with children

Under the 2022 transport policy, bicycles must be licensed and insured and e-bike riders must wear helmets. Amendments approved in March 2024 limit e-bikes to 300 W, bar riders under 16 and require helmets for children under 14 on bicycles. Bike rental businesses must provide helmets for hirers under 14. Taxis are limited, so ask your hotel about transfers from the jetty. The tourism board notes that La Digue has a health clinic for basic care but not full hospital services.

How to choose

  • Location: Anse Réunion and La Passe keep beaches, shops and the jetty within a short ride.
  • Rooms: ask about family suites, extra beds and connecting rooms.
  • Bikes: check whether children's bikes or child seats are available.
