La Digue Island Lodge

La Digue Island Lodge was built in 1973 and describes itself as the first hotel on La Digue. It sits in tropical gardens on the beach at Anse Réunion, and its grounds include the Yellow House, a colonial house from the early 1900s that the lodge describes as a national monument. The tourism board listing gives the lodge 87 rooms on 17.51 acres.

The A-frame chalets, built from local takamaka wood, are the lodge's signature: each has a double bedroom, an open-air bathroom and a mezzanine with a single bed for an older child. Other options include Beach House suites in a two-storey Creole plantation-style house, Standard Garden Rooms, restored rooms in the Yellow House, two-bedroom villas with full kitchens on the L'Union Estate near Anse Source d'Argent, and budget rooms in Gregoire's Apartment across the road.

The pool has a swim-up bar and a children's pool. The lodge also has the Blue View Spa, which the lodge says uses only local, organic products, the Azzura dive centre and a bicycle rental firm at the entrance, and it arranges weddings, romantic dinners and guided hikes.

The lodge says couples can find intimate settings while families and children have room to explore. It pitches its A-frame beach chalets at couples and runs honeymoon, wedding and anniversary offers. Yellow House rooms are for adults only.

The lodge is on the beach at Anse Réunion. The A-frame beach chalets and Beach House suites are by the beach, and the L'Union villas are steps from Anse Source d'Argent.

The lodge offers free return shared bus transfers from the La Digue jetty or helipad; send your arrival and departure times ahead. It notes that Cat Cocos runs daily from Mahé to La Digue, Cat Rose runs between Praslin and La Digue, Air Seychelles flies to Praslin, and ZilAir flies helicopters to La Digue. ZilAir lists its transfer from its Mahé base to the La Digue helipad at 17 minutes.

Yellow House rooms have steep stairs that the lodge warns can be hard for guests with mobility issues, and they are reserved for adults. Gregoire's Apartment rooms are in a separate building opposite the main hotel, above a grocery store, a gym and a pizzeria, about five minutes' walk from the hotel facilities. Standard Garden Rooms take two guests at most.
