Anse Sévère

Anse Sévère is a roadside beach on La Digue's north coast, facing Praslin and known for its sunsets. Shallow, generally calm water with reef and coral offshore makes it one of the island's easier spots for a swim and a snorkel.

What it is

Anse Sévère lies on the north coast of La Digue, facing Praslin. The Tourism Board highlights two things: the sunset over Praslin, and the reef and coral just off the beach.

Getting there

The coast road runs right beside the sand, so Anse Sévère is one of the simplest beaches on the island to reach. Cycle north from La Passe, walk, or take a taxi; SeyVillas notes there is room along the road to leave a bike or park.

The water

The Tourism Board describes shallow water and slow tides that suit casual swimming, and SeyVillas adds that rocks and coral shelter the beach from the open sea, with the drop-off beyond that protection. Conditions are calm for most of the time. Two things to watch: SeyVillas says the beach can disappear at high tide, and seaweed may wash in at any time of year.

Snorkelling

The coral offshore is the draw. The Tourism Board calls the reef a good place to snorkel, and SeyVillas rates the beach for both swimming and snorkelling. Stay inside the sheltered area.

Practicalities

SeyVillas lists a small snack bar at the north end of the beach and a boutique, plus natural shade. The SeyVillas page is undated, so carry water in case they have closed.

Getting there

Directly beside the coast road on the north of the island: by bike, on foot or by taxi, with space along the road to park (SeyVillas). Neither the Tourism Board nor SeyVillas lists an entry fee.

Swimming

Shallow water and slow tides suited to casual swimming (Tourism Board). Sheltered by rock and coral formations, calm most of the time; the beach can disappear at high tide and seaweed may be present year-round (SeyVillas).

Reef and coral just offshore; the Tourism Board describes it as a good snorkelling spot, and SeyVillas rates it for snorkelling.

Can I get to Île Cocos from La Digue?
Yes, by boat. The Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority (SPGA) describes Ile Cocos Marine Park as a 10-minute boat ride from La Digue, with visits organised through tour operators and boat charters from La Digue or Praslin. Non-residents over 12 pay Rs200 entry (SPGA, checked 16 September 2026), and tour operators normally include the fee. SPGA's Ile Cocos page lists opening hours of 9am to 5pm, seven days a week; its visitor-information page gives 8am to 5pm daily for the marine parks (both checked 16 September 2026). The park takes in Ile Cocos, Ile La Fouche and Ilot Plate, and the Tourism Board notes that Anse Peniche on Félicité falls inside its boundary.
