Anse Réunion

Anse Réunion is a reef-protected beach about 1.2 km long on La Digue's west coast, between La Passe and L'Union Estate. More of the island's registered tourism sits here than in any other area: 108 of the Seychelles Tourism Board's 240 active La Digue listings give Anse Réunion as their island area, among them 44 places to stay, 13 restaurants and 13 tours (read 20 September 2026). The water is shallow and calm at both tides and the sun sets over Praslin.

What it is

Anse Réunion runs down La Digue's west coast south of La Passe. The beach mapped in OpenStreetMap measures about 1.2 km from end to end (read 20 September 2026). The coast road runs parallel to the sand, and guesthouses and small hotels sit along it. SeyVillas notes that being close to these places means there are usually people on the beach.

Getting there

The ferry terminal at La Passe is about 310 metres from the northern end of the beach, about 890 metres from the middle and about 1.5 km from the southern end, all in a straight line; OpenStreetMap records the terminal as open 06:00 to 20:00 daily (read 20 September 2026). Walk, cycle or take a taxi; SeyVillas mentions places to leave bikes and taxi drop-off points near the hotels. Ton Ven Bike, whose store is next to the fire station in La Passe, hands bicycles over at the jetty or delivers them to a guesthouse at no extra charge, with a lock and a bottle of water included (tonvenbike.com, read 20 September 2026); OpenStreetMap maps seven bicycle-hire points within 1.2 km of the beach, all of them towards La Passe.

What is along it

Anse Réunion is where La Digue's tourism sits. Of the 240 active La Digue entries in the Seychelles Tourism Board's listings, 108 give Anse Réunion as their island area: 44 places to stay, 13 restaurants, 13 tours, 7 attractions, three taxi services and the island's tourism information office among them (read 20 September 2026). That office, near the jetty, books accommodation, restaurants, excursions, taxis and buggies, takes complaints and hands out maps and brochures (Tourism Board listing, updated 14 September 2026).

Shops, food and opening hours

Gregoire's Boutique on the road behind the beach is mapped as open 07:30 to 18:00 Monday to Saturday and 07:30 to 13:00 on Sundays and public holidays, and the STC supermarket as 08:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 14:00 Saturday and 08:00 to 13:00 Sunday. For food, Ton Gregs Pizzeria is mapped as 10:00 to 15:00 and 18:00 to 22:00 and closed on Tuesdays, and Gala Takeaway as 11:30 to 20:30 Monday to Saturday (OpenStreetMap, read 20 September 2026). Three banks, an ATM and a pharmacy are mapped within 300 metres of the jetty, along with toilets recorded as being for customers; no toilets are mapped on the sand itself, and the nearest ones to the southern end sit inside L'Union Estate, past the paying gate (OpenStreetMap, read 20 September 2026).

The water and the season

A coral reef protects the beach. SeyVillas describes shallow water at both low and high tide, a calm sea and small waves, and suggests bathing at low tide and swimming at high tide. Anse Réunion is on the west coast, and the UK Foreign Office's Seychelles travel advice says that in general the west coast is unsafe during the north-west monsoon, around December to March, that there are not many lifeguards, and that beaches do not always carry safety information (read 20 September 2026).

Snorkelling and diving

SeyVillas rates the reef-protected water for snorkelling and mentions snorkel rental on the beach; its page is undated and no official source confirms the rental. Azurro Pro Dive, a PADI centre, is mapped on the beach and recorded as offering training, guided dives and equipment hire, in English and Italian (OpenStreetMap, read 20 September 2026).

Sunsets, and what is next door

The beach faces west towards Praslin, so evenings bring the sun down behind the neighbouring island. At the southern end the L'Union Estate toll booth is about 110 metres beyond the last of the sand and leads to Anse Source d'Argent; the estate is open 06:00 to 18:00 Monday to Sunday including public holidays and charges foreign nationals SCR 150, with a pass bought after 16:30 valid the next day (lunion.estate, checked 20 September 2026). Guided walks to Anse Marron meet at the helipad at the same end (SeyVillas booking page, checked 20 September 2026), and La Digue Island Lodge, on the beach, has the nationally protected Yellow House plantation building in its grounds (Tourism Board listing, updated 2 June 2026). Stretches in front of guesthouses are busier; walk a little and the sand empties out.
