Anse Bateau
A roadside beach on Praslin's south coast with granite formations and views of Mahé, Cousin and Cousine. The water is very shallow over sand and mud, so not for swimming; seaweed from May to September and noise from a nearby quarry.
The beach
Anse Bateau is a beach of about 600 m on Praslin's south coast, lying beside the coastal road. SeyVillas says it rarely has other visitors, and describes granite formations on the sand and views across to Mahé, Cousin and Cousine.
Getting there
You can park at the side of the road, and small hotels nearby are within walking distance along the coast. Grand Anse, with restaurants, shops and takeaways, is not far away.
In the water
SeyVillas says the water is extremely shallow over a seabed of sand and mud, so swimming is not possible. It reports extreme tides and seaweed from May to September.
Before you go
A nearby rock quarry means the beach can be noisy, according to SeyVillas, although it also suggests the empty sand as a spot for private relaxation. It suits a short stop for photographs of the rocks and the neighbouring islands rather than a day on the sand.
Best for
- Photographing granite formations and views of Mahé, Cousin and Cousine (SeyVillas)
- Sunbathing on an empty beach (SeyVillas)
Getting there

Facilities
None on the beach; restaurants, shops and takeaways at nearby Grand Anse; some shade (SeyVillas).
Swimming
Very shallow water over sand and mud, not suitable for swimming; extreme tides; seaweed present from May to September (SeyVillas).
