Why stay here

Chalets Cote Mer is a small hotel on the hillside above the water at Baie Sainte Anne, on Praslin's south-east coast. The owners say it was founded by Bernadette and Rene, a French chef, and that the restaurant has served Creole food with a French touch since 1995.

The mix covers sea-view rooms for couples, 80 m² waterfront suites with kitchenettes for families, and 2- and 3-bedroom villas of about 180 m² with their own kitchens and barbecue areas. Breakfast is included, and SeyVillas offers half board as an option.

There is no beach at the hotel. The owners say the beach that once lay in front of the restaurant has gone with rising sea levels. Guests reach the sea from the sun deck instead, and snorkelling gear is free to borrow.

Before you book

No beach on site: SeyVillas puts the nearest beach about 1.7 km away. Access is up a steep road and the grounds have stairs, and SeyVillas says the stay is not suited to guests with reduced mobility. The owners run water by gravity from tanks, so water pressure can be low, and room air conditioning only works with windows and doors shut. SeyVillas lists a casual dress code in the restaurant, with no swimwear, tank tops or caps. The Ocean View Superior and Honeymoon rooms take guests from age 12 (SeyVillas). SeyVillas recommends hiring a car.
