Fishing from Praslin and La Digue

Seasons

The tourism board describes Seychelles as a year-round fishing destination, with the peak season during the north-west trades from October to April. It says the rougher seas of the south-east trades, from May to September, are favoured by yellowfin tuna, sailfish and marlin. The Seychelles Meteorological Authority calls April ideal for fishing, with light, variable winds.

What is caught

The tourism board lists black and blue marlin, sailfish, yellowfin, dogtooth and skipjack tuna, barracuda, giant trevally, green jobfish, dorado and wahoo among the catch, along with bottom fishing for bream, grouper and other reef fish.

Booking a charter

The tourism board's listings include fishing charters on Praslin. One, AmberJack Fly & Fishing Charters, offers fly fishing, big game, jigging, popping, bottom fishing and light-tackle spinning, by the hour, half day or full day. On La Digue, Le Nautique Luxury Waterfront Hotel says it can book deep-sea fishing for guests, and Le Domaine de L'Orangeraie lists fishing among its activities.

Rules

The Seychelles Fishing Authority (checked 16 September 2026) says no licence is needed for recreational fishing, defined as fishing from a vessel under 10 m for pleasure. Hiring a charter vessel of up to 40 m counts as sport fishing, and a sport fishing vessel needs a permit, so check that your charter holds one. In both cases, spearguns, explosives and poisons are banned, and the catch may not be sold. Restrictions apply in marine protected areas, and the Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority (checked 16 September 2026) asks visitors not to carry spearguns, fishing gear or fish traps within its marine parks, which include Curieuse and Ile Cocos.
