Praslin Museum

What it is

Praslin Museum, also known as Omuse, presents itself as a living cultural museum dedicated to the traditions, history and biodiversity of Seychelles. Its Seychelles Tourism Board listings, updated in November 2025, describe hands-on activities alongside the exhibits.

What you see

• Traditional tools, crafts and cooking methods, including an old-style Creole kitchen with its utensils, showing how families once grated coconut and roasted breadfruit.
• Traditional musical instruments once played by local musicians, some made from coco de mer shells.
• Preserved male and female coco de mer flowers.
• A garden of medicinal plants and endemic species, with displays on fishing, farming and music.

What you can do

The listings describe guided cultural tours and workshops: dehusking and scraping coconuts, learning to play traditional instruments, feeding giant tortoises and fruit bats, live lessons in cooking traditional Creole dishes and tastings of Seychellois food and drink. A gift corner sells local handicrafts, including nearly 24 products made by Steve Esther from cinnamon bark, coconut, vanilla, spices and Takamaka rum.

Visiting

The museum is open daily from 9am to 6pm, according to its Tourism Board listing, updated 21 November 2025. Entry is SCR 180 for visitors over 12 and SCR 90 for children under 12. The listing shows a car park, free wifi, and payment by cash in rupees, euros, sterling or US dollars, or by Visa or Mastercard. The listing gives its address as the Côte d'Or esplanade, and OpenStreetMap places it on Museum Road.
