Anse Lazio snorkelling
Anse Lazio is a beach in north-west Praslin, framed by granite boulders, with clear water for snorkelling. It has no protecting reef and the water deepens quickly, so choose calm days, arrive before 9am and stay close to shore.
What it is
Anse Lazio is a beach in the north-west of Praslin, bordered by large granite boulders. The Tourism Board calls it the most famous beach on Praslin and says it is often listed among the world's top ten beaches. Unlike many Seychelles beaches it is not protected by a coral reef, and the water gets deep quickly. As of 2024 it is designated a non-motorised beach.
Snorkelling
SeyVillas names Anse Lazio, together with Anse Boudin, among the top snorkelling spots on Praslin and describes good visibility in the clear water. Boat trips use it too: Geoli Charters' Curieuse day can finish with a swimming or snorkelling stop at Anse Lazio when weather or season rules out Anse La Farine.
Getting there
The Tourism Board describes the drive from Anse Volbert as long and winding. SeyVillas notes three car parks behind the tree line, a bus stop further away and hotels that run shuttles. A walking trail also links Anse Lazio with Anse Georgette, starting from a path at the left end of the beach.
Safety
Two fatal shark attacks happened inside the bay in August 2011; the previous known attack in Seychelles was in 1963. Safety nets installed afterwards were removed by the Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority after five years. SeyVillas advises children and less confident swimmers to stay near the shore because of the depth. SeyVillas' page, checked 16 September 2026, still describes a netted swimming area and says a lifeguard is sometimes on duty, which conflicts with the removal of the nets, so check what is in place when you arrive. For snorkelling in general, Azzura Dive Center advises telling someone where you are going, not snorkelling alone, wearing a life jacket if unsure, leaving the water before sunset and swimming back if you drift too quickly.
Timing and facilities
SeyVillas suggests arriving before 9am to beat the crowds. There are small shops and restaurants at each end of the beach. Mabuya Beach Restaurant, formerly Bonbon Plume, serves traditional Creole and international dishes from 8am to 5pm, according to its Tourism Board listing.
