The route
Cycle to Grand Anse and leave your bike there. A map board near the beach shows the route to Anse Caïman. Follow the sandy path behind the beach to the first climb, then a stony path up and over to Petite Anse. Walk behind that beach to the next slope, which drops to Anse Cocos, a long, deserted beach with a sheltered area surrounded by rocks towards the back. The path then climbs again to the small bay of Anse Caïman, where SeyVillas says a beach bar sells fresh coconuts.
Swimming
SeyVillas says Grand Anse and Petite Anse are not suitable for swimming because of seasonal currents. It recommends the sheltered area of Anse Cocos or Anse Caïman instead.
What to bring
Start before 9am. SeyVillas suggests hiking shoes rather than flip-flops, at least 2 litres of water each, insect repellent, snacks, sunscreen, a hat, swimwear and a phone with mobile data.
