Anse Marron guided coastal hike

The Anse Marron guided hike is a 6 to 7 hour scramble over granite boulders and reef along La Digue's undeveloped south coast to the rock pools of Anse Marron, finishing at Anse Source d'Argent. SeyVillas says it is only possible with a guide; the L'Union Estate fee is extra.

La Digue

What it is

The coastal route to Anse Marron crosses the undeveloped south of La Digue, over, under and between granite boulders, to a beach with natural pools enclosed by granite where you can swim sheltered from the open sea. SeyVillas calls it one of the most difficult hikes in Seychelles, strongly recommends going with a local guide, and deliberately publishes no GPS map of the route.

How the tour runs

Sunny Trail Guide, run by licensed La Digue guide Robert Agnes, leads the walk as a 6 to 7 hour day. The group sets off early and spends about two hours on rocky terrain to reach Anse Marron. You then have about two hours at the beach, with a fruit platter for lunch and snorkelling if sea conditions allow, before walking about two more hours to finish at Anse Source d'Argent. When high tide falls in the afternoon the tour runs in the opposite direction. SeyVillas describes a meeting time between 7am and 9am at the L'Union Estate entrance, a route past a baobab tree, Anse Songe and Grand l'Anse, and a final stretch behind Anse Pierrot where you wade waist-deep over sharp stones.

Cost

Sunny Trail Guide, checked 16 September 2026, does not publish its tour price; SeyVillas lists the tour at 50 euros (checked 16 September 2026). The L'Union Estate entrance fee of SCR 150 is not included. If you need a bicycle to reach the meeting point, Sunny Trail Guide rents one for 10 euros per person for the day.

Who it suits

Sunny Trail Guide describes it as a moderate hike, not a walk. Participants need to manage two hours at a time without long breaks, over granite, forest paths and reef at low tide. Sunny Trail Guide accepts children from six years, while SeyVillas suggests the hike for children from 10; pregnant women cannot join, for safety reasons. The guide may cancel for weather or for concerns about a participant's fitness.

What to bring

Two litres of water per person, sunscreen, mosquito spray, a waterproof bag for phone and camera, a light towel, and sports shoes or water shoes rather than flip-flops, since part of the route is in the sea.
