Anse La Blague
A quiet, reef-protected stretch on Praslin's eastern peninsula, looking to Grande and Petite Soeur. Shallow and calm at low tide, deep with strong currents at high tide, and seaweed from October to April. The road here is threatened by erosion.

The beach
Anse La Blague lies on the peninsula between Anse Volbert and Baie Sainte Anne, a lightly populated corner of Praslin. SeyVillas gives the beach as about 1 km long, with views across to Grande Soeur and Petite Soeur, and mentions abandoned estates and an old church nearby. OpenStreetMap divides the shore in two: Grand Anse La Blague (way 190425946) measures about 575 m between its furthest points in a straight line, and Petit Anse La Blague (way 190425947) about 330 m. Both were last edited on 3 September 2014, and the smaller carries a mapper's comment tag reading "no swimming, some snorkeling on the side".
Getting there
SeyVillas describes the approach as roughly 1 km down a narrow road behind Anse Volbert. OpenStreetMap maps the Anse La Blague Road as five tertiary segments totalling about 2.6 km, all last edited on 26 May 2024; two are tagged single-lane with a practical speed of 15 km/h, the others 40, and none carries a surface tag. SPTC route 63 is named "Anse La Blague via Vallee De Mai" and calls at the pair of stops named Villa Anse La Blague, about 230 m from the centre of Grand Anse La Blague in a straight line, and at Esther Hill Top about 340 m away (relations 13449332 and 13449333, last edited 5 March 2026). SPTC publishes no Praslin timetable, its August 2026 download covering Mahé routes only (sptc.sc, 20 September 2026). One parking node is mapped on the shore, about 560 m along towards the Petit Anse end and 33 m from the centre of Petit Anse La Blague (node 12020203425, last edited 15 July 2024). Villa Anse La Blague puts its own villa "20 minutes' drive to the jetty", with a bus stop "only 2 minutes' walk" away.
Tides and seasons
A coral reef shelters the bay, but the tide makes a large difference. At low tide the water is shallow and calm. At high tide it becomes deep and the currents strengthen, and SeyVillas says swimming or snorkelling then becomes dangerous. It reports seaweed from October to April. The Seychelles Meteorological Authority puts the south-east trades from May to October at their peak in August, with rough seas. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office says the east coast is unsafe during the south-east winds season, around May to September, that there are not many lifeguards in Seychelles and that beaches do not always carry safety information (checked 20 September 2026).
In the water
Snorkeling Report rates the spot 2 out of 5 and says to snorkel here only at low tide. It gives a maximum depth of about 2 m over sand, weed and rock, calls the area very poor in corals, and lists lagoon triggerfish, chromis, surgeonfish, sergeants, butterflyfish and eels around the rocks (page last updated 2 February 2023).
Facilities
OpenStreetMap maps no toilets, no shop and no drinking water within 1.5 km (20 September 2026), though the tourism board listing for The House says a shop and a restaurant are nearby. The board also lists Raymond Dubuisson's gallery here, and a church is mapped about 60 m back from the sand (node 2010537975).
Erosion
In June 2024 the government named Anse La Blague one of four priority locations for coastal protection. The transport minister described the situation as critical and said the road needed raising to avoid cutting off residents. State House reported on 13 December 2024 that two groynes of about 20 m were planned at Cap Sammy, a point on the main coast road mapped 2.3 km from the beach in a straight line (OpenStreetMap node 9257902095).

Sources differ on Anse La Farine, about 1.7 km away in a straight line: Tourism Seychelles lists it as accessible only by boat (record updated 29 September 2024), while OpenStreetMap maps a 630 m hiking path to it whose note advises closed shoes and warns that it is slippery after rain (way 177032335).
