Villas and self-catering on La Digue
More than half of the accommodation listed on La Digue is self-catering: apartments, bungalows and villas, mostly around La Passe and Anse Réunion. With bicycles as the main transport, location matters.
How much there is
The tourism board's 2026 self-catering article puts the number of self-catering lodgings on La Digue at around 80. Its website listed 51 self-catering properties on La Digue on 16 September 2026, out of 89 places to stay.
What to expect
The tourism board says most self-catering properties have a kitchen, utensils, Wi-Fi and air conditioning. Its La Digue examples include Casa de Leela, established in 2013, with bungalows and apartments around a garden pool at Anse Réunion, close to Anse Source d'Argent, and Villa Charette, opened in 2021, with five units across from the beach in La Passe, within walking distance of shops and cafes. It notes that food delivery options are expanding on La Digue.
Villas with a pool
Le Domaine de L'Orangeraie at Anse Sévère has hotel villas with private pools, including a Presidential Villa for up to six guests with a private infinity pool and butler. These are hotel stays rather than self-catering.
How to choose
- Location: with bicycles as the main transport, a base in La Passe or Anse Réunion keeps shops, cafes and the jetty close.
- Bikes: ask whether bikes come with the property. Under the 2022 transport policy, bicycles must be licensed and insured and e-bike riders must wear helmets. Amendments approved in March 2024 limit e-bikes to 300 W, bar riders under 16 and require helmets for children under 14 on bicycles.
- Arrival: the island has no car hire, according to a 2019 Seychelles News Agency guide, and taxis are limited, so arrange collection from the jetty.
- Timing: the tourism board says demand is high from December to April and from July to September.
