Anse Union

Anse Union is a narrow, reef-protected beach inside L'Union Estate on La Digue's west coast, with views of Anse Source d'Argent. Shallow, calm water around a metre deep at high tide makes it a gentle place to swim or try snorkelling.

What it is

Anse Union sits on the west coast of La Digue within L'Union Estate, the former plantation that is also the gateway to Anse Source d'Argent. It is a long, narrow strip of sand with views across to Anse Source d'Argent and, in the evening, sunsets over Praslin. SeyVillas calls it less famous than some of its neighbouring beaches and describes it as normally empty.

Getting there

Because it lies inside the estate, you pay the estate entry fee. The estate's official site lists SCR 150 for foreign nationals, a day pass, with the estate open from 6am to 6pm (checked 16 September 2026). Most visitors arrive by bike or on foot; the estate puts the ride from the jetty at about 15 minutes.

The water

A coral reef protects the beach, so waves are small and currents weak. SeyVillas puts the depth at about 1 metre at high tide, which makes this one of the gentler places on the island for children and for first-time snorkellers. Low tide will be shallower still, so as at Anse Source d'Argent, aim for the higher part of the tide if you want to swim.

Practicalities

There are no facilities on the sand itself. SeyVillas says shops and other amenities are about five minutes away in the nearby village, and the estate has food outlets and shops inside its grounds. Shade comes from the trees along the back of the beach.

Getting there

Inside L'Union Estate: entry fee SCR 150 for foreign nationals, valid for the day (L'Union Estate official site, checked 16 September 2026). Open 6am to 6pm daily (estate site, checked 16 September 2026). Reach it by bike (about 15 minutes from the jetty, per the estate) or on foot. The SeyVillas page is inconsistent on the fee, quoting both 150 and 100 rupees; the estate's figure is the one to use.

Swimming
